I can actually drive the damn thing when it’s 90+ degrees out now without hating my life. The drive to Lincoln, Nebraska on Friday is no longer something I’m completely dreading!
Seriously, as much as I love this car it was absolutely miserable to drive when it was hot outside.
It was still the original R12 system which didn’t have hardly any pressure left. I had it converted to R134a so that I can easily charge it if it ever loses pressure over time. Works like a charm now.
Anyway, why am I driving to Nebraska?
My first divisional level AutoX event! There’s a whole group of us Wichita SCCA people heading up to run this weekend and I’m excited.
My only goal is not to be last.

I deeply regret buying a Miata without factory AC. Wonder how much of a pain it would be to retrofit the AC system...

If you don’t wanna buy new parts, probably a massive one. When I had an EG civic w/o A/C I went to junkyards to scavenge the main parts and the A/C was stri pp ed on so many I gave up.
Although with a Miata you could maybe find someone who’s stripping it outta there’s for autoX/track work and buy it from them.

Treasure coast will sell you a used compressor for $50. I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceberg though

If I ever get around removing mine you’re welcome to it. A/C = less power and more weight! Mine isn’t functioning and weighs the car down in the front by like 30lbs. I’m used to not having A/C anyways.
